Dichroic is a type of halogen. in the more expensive models dichroic coating is reflecting particular frequencies of the visible spectrum in the direction which points the lamp without reflecting infrared light which produces heat, thereby reducing heating their goal. The combination of the halogen light source and dichroic coating makes these lamps provide an index of color reproductionand a color temperature than incandescent bulbs.
